Larry Talbott and Colleen O'Connor

Fishels was founded in 1921 by Leonard Fishel who immigrated to the United States from Russia in 1911. Leonard and his wife Rose had two sons Howard and Martin. Returning from the war, Howard and Martin joined the company and helped direct the casual furniture expansion at Fishels. In the late 60’s with both Leonard and Howard deceased, Martin elected to spin off the awning business and pursue his new interest in Contemporary Furniture and expanded the store to its current size of 25,000 sq ft.

In 1993 Larry Talbott joined the company and two years later bought out the Fishels interest. In 2000 Larry expanded the Fishels brand to a Westside location. In 2002, Martin Fishel was presented with the Casual Industries Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2009 Fishels was awarded the coveted Apollo Award by the Casual Industry for performance in overall merchandising, customer service and market leadership. Fishels is celebrating its 89th Anniversary this year and continues to strive for the excellence first introduced in Portland by Leonard Fishel in 1921.
